Sutton Women's Centre

Counselling Service

We understand the profound impact domestic abuse can have on a woman’s self-esteem, confidence, and ability to manage daily life or plan for the future. Our counselling service offers a safe, supportive space to help you better understand yourself and come to terms with your experiences.

Our service is open to women who live or work in the borough. It is free of charge, although we kindly ask for a donation of £5–£20 per session, where possible.

What we offer

  • An initial programme of 16 counselling sessions, with the possibility of extension if needed

  • 50-minute sessions

  • A free crèche facility, if required

  • Support from a team of trained and qualified volunteer counsellors

Our counsellors work integratively, meaning they draw on a range of counselling approaches and tailor their work to your individual needs. They provide a safe, empathetic, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings.

Over 90% of our clients have rated their relationship with their counsellor as very good to excellent.

Your first session

Your first session is an opportunity to:

  • Share what has brought you to counselling

  • Discuss what you would like to work through

  • Decide whether the counselling we offer feels right for you

It is also a chance for you to see if you feel comfortable with your counsellor. If you have any concerns, please let us know—feeling safe and supported is essential.

Ongoing support

You and your counsellor will agree on a plan of work together. This usually involves 16 sessions, with a review at around 12 weeks. If you both feel that further support would be beneficial, we can discuss extending your sessions.

How to refer yourself

If you would like to access counselling, please contact us on 020 8661 1991 or email us. We will be happy to explain the process and how we can support you.
