Legal Services

We run a mixture of the Freedom Programme and The Voice.

The programme is a 12 week group course designed for women who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse.  It combines therapeutic and knowledge-based approaches to support victims and survivors of coercive control and intimate partner abuse.

The programme helps women – make sense of what has happened to them; recognise the characteristics and early warning signs of abusers and abusive relationships; and how children are affected by being exposed to this kind of abuse – and very importantly how their lives are improved when the abuse is removed.

The programme is designed for adults who have experienced domestic abuse, whether currently, post-separation, or historically, regardless of gender, sexuality, race, faith, culture, or disability. It addresses domestic violence, coercive control, and the broad spectrum of abusive behaviours, helping participants understand the impact of trauma and develop self-regulation and self-care skills. The programme integrates themes of intersectionality and explores how digital technology can compound abusive dynamics.

The programme consists of twelve 2.5-hour sessions delivered weekly, face-to-face, in groups or one-to-one. Each session combines discussion, self-reflective exercises, visual media, and active participation.

  • Understanding the cycle of abuse and the behaviours of a controlling partner pre- and post-separation.

  • Psychoeducation on trauma and normal stress responses.

  • Exploration of characters such as "The Controller," "The Charmer," and "The Bully" to illustrate abusive dynamics.  We also look at grounding techniques, affirmations and self-care tools to support recovery.

Benefits for Participants

Participants often report feeling more connected to themselves, gaining confidence, and understanding the dynamics of abuse. The programme provides a safe, supportive environment to explore personal experiences, rebuild self-identity, and develop coping strategies.
